David Stebbing

(B.A, M.Ed, PgDip Child & Family Psych, MNZPSY Registered Psychologist)

I am a Registered Psychologist with a Postgraduate Diploma in Child and Family Psychology (PgDip Child & Family Psych) from the University of Canterbury. I have almost 20 years’ experience in the assessment and treatment of a range of psychological problems affecting tamariki / children, mātātahi / young people, adults, couples and families.

I have a particular interest in the areas of couple and whānau therapy, plus adolescent and adult therapy as related to anxiety and/or mood disorders, ADHD, trauma, grief and loss, or individuals looking to explore ways to find meaning and engage more fully in their lives both in themselves and in their relationships with others.

I aim to create an environment that enables my clients to feel understood, safe, respected, and hopeful about our work together and their own future.

I believe therapy works best when it’s a collaborative process based on a shared set of goals, underpinned by sound clinical knowledge and the provision of effective strategies. I am committed to self-awareness and growth and actively seek to practise this in my everyday life including my professional practice.

I currently provide services to a range of private, public sector and not for profit clients including: the NZ Police, Employee Assistance Programme clients from a range of employers, Ministry of Justice (Judicial Services and Family Court), Oranga Tamariki, I am Hope (Gumboot Friday) and Kenzie’s Gift.

I am registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board, am a member of The New Zealand Psychological Society, an accredited specialist Family Court Counsellor, and an accredited TRIPLE P (Positive Parenting Programme) Practitioner. I am also an accredited provider of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) - a treatment specifically designed to alleviate the effects of trauma exposure.
